Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder

Consuming alcohol while pregnant can pose serious risks to your baby. This can lead to various mental and physical issues known as fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD). FASD occurs when alcohol in the mother’s bloodstream reaches the baby through the placenta. Since a baby’s body is not equipped to metabolise alcohol effectively, it can remain in their system for an extended period. This exposure can harm their brain and body, hindering normal development in the womb, which might even result in miscarriage. Babies who are born after such exposure may face long-term challenges.
