About Dr Saad Al-Khalaf

Dr Saad Al-Khalaf is a highly experienced consultant general and old age psychiatrist based in Surrey. He also covers Hampshire and London. He specialises in organic psychiatry, anxiety, depression (particularly treatment-resistant depression) and bipolar disorder. Dr Al-Khalaf is an expert in conditions relating to old age psychiatry such as memory impairment, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. After training in health jobs in all specialties of medicine,Dr Al-Khalaf went on to specialise in psychiatry, completing a diploma in psychiatry and neurology from the University of London. Dr Al-Khalaf became a fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2005 and has been engaged in providing independent psychiatric services for many years. He worked closely with the Priory Hospital in Woking and the Cardinal Clinic in Windsor. He currently works in private practice at Nuffield Health Guildford Hospital and the Priory Hospital Woking. Dr Al-Khalaf is passionate about improving standards in psychiatric care for better outcomes for patients and led a team aimed at strengthening psychiatry in west Surrey and north Hampshire for many years. Across his career, he has helped to improve psychiatric care by setting up a number of self-help groups with many of his projects being nationally recognized. Dr Al-Khalaf also uses his wealth of experience in psychiatry to educate trainee doctors and has been an examiner for the Royal College of Psychiatrists for many years. He is an expert in medicolegal assessments relating to mental capacity, stress and trauma related psychological impact to name but a few. He is currently a panel member for the Care Quality Commission (CQC) which appraises standards in the NHS and the independent sector. He is also a panel member for the general medical council for fitness to practice.
