About Professor Alex O'Neill-Kerr
Professor Alex O'Neill-Kerr is a highly revered general adult psychiatrist who specialises in transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), depression, OCD, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder. He currently practises at the Transforming Mind Solutions clinic. Professor O'Neill-Kerr, who is the current medical director and clinical lead at the clinic, also specialises in transcranial direct current stimulation, ketamine, and vagus nerve stimulation. Until his retirement in 2020, as a visiting lecturer, Professor O'Neill-Kerr occupied the role of visiting Professor in neuromodulation at the University of Northampton. Notably, Professor O'Neill-Kerr has authored and co-authored a substantial number of papers on TMS. He lectures both nationally and internationally on TMS at the Royal College of Psychiatry International Meeting and The Royal College of Psychiatry ECT training days. Professor O'Neill-Kerr is actively researching how effective transcranial magnetic stimulation can be in terms of treating patients with depression and anxiety. He was a principle investigator in the NIHR BRIGHTMIND study researching Theta burst, Navigated TMS vs standard TMS, the biggest TMS study in Europe due for publication in 2023. He has racked up eight years of experience with regards to the investigation into how this specific treatment option can work for depression in cases where anti-depressants have not been effective.
