About Mr Mahmoud Salam
Mr Mahmoud Salam is a highly experienced ENT surgeon with over 40 years of expertise in general ear, nose, and throat surgery. He has special expertise in treatment of rhinosinusitis, nasal polyps, blocked noses, and ear diseases. He is renowned for his specialised skills in nasal allergy management and endoscopic sinus surgery. He has performed more than 2,000 procedures in this field. His outstanding surgical results, published in the Royal College of Surgeons' National Sino-Nasal Audit, rank him among the top ten surgeons in the UK. In Ipswich and Suffolk, Mr Salam stands out as the only surgeon offering the innovative "Balloon Sinuplasty technique" for treatment of selected cases of rhinosinusitis. In addition to his endoscopic sinus surgery expertise, Mr Salam pioneered the "Balloon Tuboplasty Dilatation Technique" for treatment of Eustachian Tube Dysfunction in the UK nearly 12 years ago. This groundbreaking approach has provided relief to numerous patients suffering from persistent symptoms such as ear blockage, hearing reduction, crackling sounds, and ear pain during air travel. With hundreds of successful Balloon Tuboplasty procedures to his credit, Mr Salam has shared his expertise by publishing results in international medical journals and presenting them at esteemed global conferences. Mr Salam extensive expertise extends to ear surgery, where he has performed several hundred procedures of tympanoplasty and mastoid surgery. Additionally, he has made significant contributions to the management of voice and swallowing disorders as the lead of the Voice Clinic at Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust. Working closely with speech and language therapists, he has provided comprehensive care for patients with complex voice and swallowing challenges. Passionate about clinical excellence, Mr Salam served as the Audit Lead for ENT at Ipswich Hospital, meticulously evaluating his surgical outcomes and using his findings to train and mentor junior doctors. He actively contributes to teaching on regional and national courses in Endoscopic Sinus Surgery. Beyond his clinical role, he spent eight years in senior management, overseeing seven surgical specialties at Ipswich Hospital.
