About Professor Thozhukat Sathyapalan
Professor Thozhukat Sathyapalan— (Sathya)—is the current chair of diabetes, endocrinology, and metabolism, and serves as a highly distinguished consultant endocrinologist in Hull. Renowned for his deep expertise in complex endocrine and metabolic conditions, he is highly respected for delivering personalised, expert-led care. He completed his specialist training in endocrinology, diabetes, and general (internal) medicine in Aberdeen and the Yorkshire Deanery, before undertaking a postgraduate research fellowship at the University of Hull under Professor Stephen Atkin. Since joining the University of Hull and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in 2009 as a Consultant Endocrinologist and Senior Lecturer, he progressed to Reader in 2012 and was appointed as Professor of Endocrinology in 2016. Professor Sathyapalan’s clinical interests include the management of thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, pituitary, and neuroendocrine tumours, as well as diabetes, obesity, and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). He is known for his thorough, detail-oriented approach and his ability to manage complex cases with a strong emphasis on tailored, patient-centred care grounded in the latest medical evidence. Professor Sathyapalan has authored over 400 peer-reviewed publications and leads national and international clinical trials that have helped shape the treatment of endocrine and metabolic disease. . His research has contributed significantly to the understanding and treatment of endocrine and metabolic diseases, particularly type 2 diabetes and polycystic ovary syndrome, shaping clinical practice and improving patient outcomes. Professor Sathyapalan is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London and Edinburgh, as well as the American College of Physicians. He remains actively engaged with several professional societies, including the American Endocrine Society, British Endocrine Society, the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists, and the European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society.
