About Dr Salini Sumangala
Dr Salini Sumangala is an esteemed and skilled consultant neurologist in Birmingham. She specialises in epilepsy, headache and movement disorders, alongside peripheral neuropathy, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. She privately practises at The Priory Hospital and holds an NHS post at Queen Elizabeth (QE) Hospital, part of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust. She works closely with paediatric neurology services in her role as transition lead at QE, supporting young patients as they move into adult neurological care. Dr Sumangala has particular subspecialist interests in neuroimmunology and muscle disorders, and plays an active role in complex epilepsy clinics and antenatal epilepsy care at QE and Birmingham Women’s Hospital. She is also a key member of the epilepsy surgery multidisciplinary team. Dr Sumangala completed her medical degree at the University of Kerala in 2004, followed by MRCP in 2014 and MRCP (Neurology) in 2018. She has a strong academic background and has contributed to a range of research publications in areas including neuroimmunology, brain tumour-related epilepsy, and neurological complications following vaccinations and immunotherapy. She regularly presents her work at national meetings and has co-authored several peer-reviewed articles and posters. In addition to her clinical roles, Dr Sumangala is involved in teaching and training registrars and medical undergraduates at QE Hospital and City Hospital. She also participates in several multidisciplinary meetings including neuroradiology, neurogenetics, neurooncology and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) review meetings, and contributes to neurology grand rounds. Dr Sumangala is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care informed by the latest research and clinical guidance.
