About Miss Parveen Abedin
Miss Parveen Abedin is a consultant gynaecologist and minimal access specialist in Birmingham, who specialises in minimal access surgery (keyhole surgery), gynaecological cancer and endometriosis, alongside menopause, menstrual disorders, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), colposcopy and pelvic pain. She privately practises at The Priory Hospital, part of Circle Health Group, and The Harborne Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare UK, while her NHS base is Birmingham Women’s Hospital. She offers comprehensive care for a wide range of gynaecological conditions, including menstrual disorders, pelvic pain, endometriosis and premenstrual syndrome. Miss Abedin has particular expertise in minimal access (keyhole) surgery and routinely performs laparoscopic hysterectomy, laparoscopic removal of ovarian cysts and complex pelvic surgery, including open procedures for severe endometriosis. Her surgical approach aims to minimise recovery time and support early return to normal activities, with many patients able to go home within a day following surgery. A key area of her practice is gynaecological oncology. She is experienced in the investigation and management of postmenopausal bleeding and is actively involved in screening for ovarian, cervical and endometrial cancers. She also undertakes colposcopy and works closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure accurate diagnosis and appropriate, timely treatment. Miss Abedin graduated in medicine from Aligarh Muslim University in 1992 and completed her postgraduate training in obstetrics and gynaecology in Birmingham. She later undertook advanced training in laparoscopic surgery at major UK centres, as well as a visiting fellowship in the United States to further develop her skills in laparoscopic and robotic techniques. She became a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2010 and also holds an MSc and the Diploma of the Faculty of Family Planning. In addition to her clinical work, Miss Abedin has a strong commitment to education and research. She is a senior clinical examiner at Birmingham Medical School, an examiner for the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology and a lecturer on MRCOG Part II examination courses. She is a recognised trainer for laparoscopic surgeons and has authored several peer-reviewed journal articles, as well as a book for doctors preparing for the MRCOG examination. She also acts as a principal investigator for a number of research projects in gynaecological cancers. Miss Abedin is fluent in English, Urdu and Punjabi and is known for her clear communication and supportive approach, helping patients to understand their diagnosis and treatment options and to make well-informed decisions about their care.
