Angelman syndrome

Angelman syndrome is an uncommon genetic disorder that impacts the nervous system, resulting in significant physical and learning challenges. Individuals with Angelman syndrome typically have a life expectancy that is close to normal, although they will require ongoing support throughout their lives. Signs of delayed development in a child with Angelman syndrome usually become apparent between 6 to 12 months, such as difficulty sitting up unaided or making babbling sounds. As they grow, many may not develop speech at all or may only manage to say a few words. Nevertheless, most children with Angelman syndrome can communicate through gestures, signs, or alternative communication methods.
