About Mr Amit Bidwai
Mr Amit Bidwai is a consultant in shoulder and elbow surgery in Nottingham. He specialises in shoulder, elbow and rotator cuff injuries, alongside frozen shoulder, shoulder osteoarthritis, osteoarthritis of the elbow, tendonitis, and epicondylitis (tennis elbow). He privately practises at The Park Hospital, part of Circle Health Group, while his NHS base is Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, treating patients at King’s Mill and Newark Hospitals. He specialises exclusively in shoulder and elbow conditions, managing a wide range of problems including degenerative joint disease, rotator cuff disorders, instability, fractures and complex upper limb conditions. His practice is informed by extensive fellowship training in shoulder, elbow and upper limb surgery, including post-CCT fellowship training at South Tees Hospitals under Professor Amar Rangan, the Liverpool Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship, and advanced upper limb training at the internationally recognised Wrightington Hospital. Mr Bidwai graduated from the University of Manchester in 2002 and completed his early surgical training across London, Essex, Manchester and Oxford. He went on to complete higher orthopaedic training in Cheshire and Merseyside, gaining Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedics. During his training, he was awarded the prestigious British Orthopaedic Association and International Bone Research Association travelling fellowship, which allowed him to develop further experience at centres of excellence including the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and the Mayo Clinic. Alongside his clinical work, Mr Bidwai has a strong commitment to education, research and quality improvement. He holds a postgraduate certificate in Teaching and Learning in Clinical Practice and has led teaching programmes within the Liverpool Upper Limb Unit. He currently acts as an educational supervisor and FRCS mock exam course convenor at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He has published widely in peer-reviewed scientific journals, presents regularly at national and international conferences, and serves as a peer reviewer for The Bone and Joint Journal and Shoulder and Elbow. He is a co-author of national guidelines for the management of shoulder osteoarthritis and holds national responsibilities within the British Elbow and Shoulder Society, contributing to the evaluation of shoulder prosthesis quality and longevity through the Orthopaedic Data Evaluation Panel. Mr Bidwai is a member of several professional bodies, including the British Elbow and Shoulder Society, the British Orthopaedic Association and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. His work has been recognised with multiple awards, including the AO Trauma Research Prize and the British Orthopaedic Association International Bone Research Award.
