About Dr Mark Fullard

Dr Mark Fullard is an experiencedconsultant gastroenterologist based in Hertfordshire. He specialises in advanced endoscopy of the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract and the management of diseases affecting the oesophagus and stomach, including gastroscopy, Barrett's oesophagus, acid reflux and early oesophageal cancer. He sees patients with all GI conditions including those with liver disease, bowel problems such and irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease and abdominal pain. Dr Fullard graduated from the University of Leicester in 1995 and completed his specialist training in gastroenterology and general internal medicine on the South East Thames training rotation, including being awarded Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from St George's University of London for his research on gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and Barrett's oesophagus. In April 2008, he was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at West Herts and has been working in the NHS and private sector in the region since then. With extensive and current expertise in treating a wide range of GI conditions, Dr Fullard has amassed considerable experience over a 25-year career, having performed more than 10,000 gastroscopies and approximately 5,000 colonoscopies. Annually, he conducts around 700 gastroscopies and 200 colonoscopies, including advanced procedures to treat early cancers of the oesophagus and stomach. He also runs the oesophageal physiology service at West Herts which investigates patients with reflux and other conditions affecting the oesophagus. In addition to his clinical work, Dr Fullard has been an active member of the oesophageal committee of the British Society of Gastroenterology since 2016, now serving as the chair of the section. As part of this role, he has contributed to the publication of national guidelines on oesophageal manometry and pH monitoring. He also has an active role in endoscopy training and teaches on a number of nationally accredited endoscopy training courses including teaching other endoscopists how to train others.
