About Mr William Matthews
Mr William Matthews is a dual fellowship-trained consultant hand and wrist surgeon. His NHS practice is based at West Suffolk Hospital, and private care based at St Edmunds Hospital, Bury St Edmunds. His clinical practice covers a broad spectrum of elective and trauma-related hand and wrist surgery, with particular interests in nerve compression syndromes, Dupuytrens contracture, degenerative and inflammatory arthritis, and acute and complex trauma of the upper limb. Mr Matthews graduated with distinction in Clinical Sciences from King’s College London, having previously completed a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at The University of Manchester. He went on to complete higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics within the East of England Deanery. Following completion of specialist training, he went on to undertake two highly regarded Hand Surgery fellowships: the BSSH Training Interface Group Fellowship at Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital and a Senior Clinical Fellowship at University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire. These roles provided advanced training in both orthopaedic and plastic reconstructive techniques for hand and wrist conditions. In addition to his clinical work, Mr Matthews has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented nationally and internationally on topics such as scaphoid fracture management and surgical outcomes in hand conditions. He is regularly involved in postgraduate education, teaching on cadaveric surgical courses and FRCS exam preparation programmes.
