Enlarged prostate

An enlarged prostate, often referred to as benign prostatic hyperplasia, occurs when the prostate gland increases in size. This condition is quite common, particularly in men over the age of 50, and is generally not serious. However, there are treatments available if needed. The prostate is a small gland located beneath the bladder, responsible for producing semen and regulating urine flow from the bladder to the penis. When the prostate enlarges, it can exert pressure on the urethra, which may lead to difficulties with urination.
