Erectile dysfunction (impotence)

Erectile dysfunction, often referred to as impotence, is quite common, especially in men over the age of 40. In most cases, it isn’t a cause for concern, but it's advisable to consult a GP if it occurs frequently. Erectile dysfunction occurs when you have difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection. Depending on the underlying cause, you may still find that you can get an erection at other times, such as during the night or upon waking. Additionally, it’s not uncommon to experience a decreased interest in sex, known as low libido.
