About Professor Asif Muneer
Professor Asif Muneer is a consultant urological surgeon and andrologist based in London. He specialises in erectile dysfunction, penile prosthesis surgery, vasectomy reversal and male infertility and also urologic oncology, testicular cancer, hypogonadism, and surgery for Peyronie's disease. He has a private practice at the Cleveland Clinic Portland Place Outpatient Centre and OneWelbeck, while his NHS base is at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Professor Muneer is Professor of Urology and Surgical Andrology in the Division of Surgery and Interventional Science at University College London (UCL), leads the supraregional penile and testicular cancer network at his NHS base. He also has particular expertise in penile cancer surgery and reconstructive techniques and testis-sparing surgery for testicular cancer. He graduated from the University of Manchester and has two higher degrees, MD and PhD, for his research, as well as an MBA from UCL in Global Health. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Eng), the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and holds the FRCS (Urol). After completing his higher surgical training in Oxford, he undertook advanced fellowships at the University of Paris, the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) in Amsterdam, the University of Bern and MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas. He has received several awards, including the Keith Yeates Gold Medal for the FRCS (Urol) intercollegiate examination, the British Urological Foundation award, an Ethicon visiting fellowship, the Ralph Shackman fellowship, a Royal Society of Medicine award and the Harold Hopkins Golden Telescope from the British Association of Urological Surgeons, which is awarded to consultants in recognition of their contribution to urology. Professor Muneer has published more than 250 peer-reviewed papers and has co-edited eight textbooks, including Viva Practice for the FRCS (Urol), Textbook of Penile Cancer, Atlas of Male Genitourethral Surgery and Prosthetic Surgery in Urology. His research interests focus on genital oncology and benign andrology, and he leads the UCL Male Genital Cancer Centre. He is Chief Investigator for the multicentre NIHR-funded VELRAD penile cancer trial and has published extensively on erectile dysfunction, priapism and advanced prosthetic surgery. He has held a number of national leadership roles, including Chair of the BAUS Section of Andrology and Chair of the Andrology Special Interest Group of the British Fertility Society. He is a past Honorary Secretary of the British Association of Urological Surgeons and past President of the British Society for Sexual Medicine. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine. A committed educator, Professor Muneer lectures extensively to both senior and trainee surgeons at national and international conferences. He's widely recognised for his contributions to advancing surgical standards in andrology and urologic oncology, combining high-volume clinical expertise with academic leadership and innovation.
