Cardiomyopathy
Cardiomyopathy refers to a range of diseases affecting the heart muscle, which can lead to the walls of the heart chambers becoming either stretched, thickened, or stiff. This condition hampers the heart's ability to effectively pump blood throughout the body. Most forms of cardiomyopathy are inherited, although it can also arise from other medical conditions or risk factors; in some cases, the exact cause remains unclear. Cardiomyopathy can occur in individuals of any age. In the case of dilated cardiomyopathy, the heart's muscle walls become thin and stretched, impairing their ability to contract properly and pump blood efficiently. If you have dilated cardiomyopathy, you face an increased risk of heart failure, a condition where the heart does not pump enough blood at the necessary pressure.
