About Dr James Gamble

Dr James Gamble is a consultant cardiologist at Nuffield Oxford Hospital and at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. He sees patients with all cardiac problems, but particularly specialises in treatment of heart failure, implantation and management of pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators, and assessing people with breathlessness, leg swelling, palpitations and for cardiac check-ups. He takes particular care to personalise treatment and assessment to each patient, aiming to ensure that he works together with you to find the best options. Dr Gamble qualified as a doctor from the University of Oxford in 2005, and was trained in Cambridge and Oxford. He was appointed as consultant in 2017, when he also earned his Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Oxford. He became a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2008, and a fellow in 2018. He has a broad experience in all areas of cardiology. He leads the heart failure service in Oxfordshire, and also currently takes a leadership role for cardiology across the region, as well as sitting on the cardiac network for the Berkshire, Oxfordshire, and Buckinghamshire Integrated Care Board. He has a particular interest in the implantation of pacemakers and related devices. He is skilled in procedures for Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillators (ICDs), Cardiac Resynchronisation Therapy (CRT/biventicular pacing) and Implantable Loop Recorders (ILRs/Reveal devices). He implants over 200 of these devices in most years, often more than any other consultant in Oxford, and leads on training for these procedures within the NHS in Oxford. In addition to his clinical practice, he is involved in research regarding new medications for patients with heart failure and cardiac resynchronisation therapy. He actively collaborates with colleagues, trialling new devices and techniques for surgical procedures. He has several publications in journals for his research.
