Hepatitis B
Hepatitis B is a liver infection that is transmitted through blood and bodily fluids. A vaccine is available to protect against hepatitis B, and the likelihood of contracting it in the UK is minimal. While the infection typically lasts for a few months, some individuals may experience a long-term infection. The hepatitis B virus is spread through blood and bodily fluids. If a pregnant person has hepatitis B, there is a risk of passing the virus to their baby during childbirth. Since 1972, all donated blood has been screened for hepatitis B to ensure its safety, which significantly reduces the chance of acquiring an infection through a blood transfusion.
