Leptospirosis (Weil's disease)

Leptospirosis, often referred to as Weil's disease, is an infection that can be contracted from animals, soil, or water. It is uncommon in the UK. The disease is transmitted through the urine of infected animals, with rats, mice, cows, pigs, and dogs being the most common sources. It is quite unusual to catch leptospirosis from pets, other humans, or through bites. While many individuals who contract leptospirosis may experience no symptoms or only mild flu-like symptoms, some can become severely unwell.
