He specialises in diagnostic neuroradiology, interventional neuroradiology, and coiling of brain aneurysms, stenting and flow divertor treatment of brain aneurysms and Intrasaccular device treatment of brain aneurysms, alongside embolization of brain AVM (arteriovenous malformation), cerebral angiograms, embolization of brain dural fistula , cerebral catheter angiograms, carotid stenting, embolisation of CSF fistula for intracranial hypotension, cerebral venous stenting for intracranial hypertension and mechanical thrombectomy for brain stroke. He is a specialist in minimally invasive vascular surgery for brain and spine conditions, including aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). He privately practises at The Wellington Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare UK, and holds NHS posts as Lead Consultant Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiologist at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust in London. Here, he is also Clinical Director for Interventional radiology, interventional neuroradiology and Breast radiology services. Internationally, he also works as a consultant neuroradiologist at Nanavati Max Super Specialty Hospital in Mumbai. Professor Patankar is highly qualified, with 10 certifications including a PhD in Neuroradiology from the University of Manchester, an FRCR from the Royal College of Radiologists, an EDiNR (European Diploma in Diagnostic Neuroradiology) and MSc in Neurovascular Diseases from Chiang Mai University and Paris University. He also has several diplomas, a DMRD in Medical Radiodiagnosis from the University of Bombay, a DMRE in Medical Radiology & Electrology from the College of Physicians & Surgeons, Bombay and a Diplomate of National Board of Examinations in Radiology from the Ministry of Health, Bombay, which is equivalent to an MD. Furthermore, he went on to specialist diagnostic neuroradiology training as a visiting fellow in North Carolina and Chicago in the USA. Alongside Professor Patankar's extensive experience in complex endovascular procedures especially complex aneurysm treatment, involved with over 3,000 aneurysm coiling cases having acted as the Primary Operator for more than 2,000 of these cases, and performed over 10,000 diagnostic catheter angiograms., alongside advanced aneurysm treatments using intrasaccular device such as a web, contour, Neqstent , nautilus, Eclips and flow diverter techniques such as pipeline, Surpass evolve, P64, derive, silk stents, he has an esteemed reputation as an educator and proctors cases all over the world. He is Professor of radiology at the University of Bolton and Honorary professor in informatics imaging and data sciences at the University of Manchester.
