About Dr Sachin Khambadkone
Dr Sachin Khambadkone is a leading senior consultant in paediatric and adolescent cardiology and specialises in echocardiography and interventional cardiology. He works in the NHS as chief of cardiology at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London, and is an honorary associate professor at University College London. Dr Khambadkone is recognised as a world expert in his field and a key opinion leader in UK, Europe and US and is often sought to provide a second medical opinion to patients, families and other cardiologists from within UK, and internationally. He practices privately at The Portland Hospital and International and Private Patients, Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. Dr Khambadkone has extensive training in general paediatrics, neonatology and paediatric cardiology. With his clinical experience of over 30 years, he is an expert in diagnosing and treating all aspects of cardiac problems including heart murmurs, chest pain, palpitations, syncope (fainting), heart failure, and management of simple and complex structural heart conditions. Dr Khambadkone also specialises in problems of adolescence including chest pain, screening for sporting activities, fainting, postural orthostatic hypotension syndrome (POTS) and assessing long term outcome after treatment of congenital heart disease. Dr Khambadkone was part of the pioneering team that introduced pulmonary valve replacement procedure without open heart surgery. This was recognised as a landmark innovation in treatment of congenital heart disease that has now expanded the use of valve repair and valve replacement procedures in children and adults. He was one of the first Proctor or Trainer for implantation of the Melody valve, and he was instrumental in setting up training programmes in several paediatric cardiology centres in UK, Europe and Asia. In addition to interventional procedures such as balloon angioplasty, closures of holes in the heart, stent angioplasty, and valve implantations, he takes a keen interest in introducing novel techniques and devices in the field of congenital cardiology. Additionally, as a result of his overseas experience, he has expertise in managing acute rheumatic fever and rheumatic valvular heart diseases, considered a rare expertise in UK. Dr Khambadkone has over 120 publications and book chapters in leading scientific journals and textbooks.
