About Professor Richard Gibbs

Professor Richard Gibbs is a consultant vascular surgeon in London, specialising in endovascular and open surgery for arterial and venous vascular diseases, carotid endarterectomy, and aortic diseases and aneurysm repair. His NHS practice is located at Imperial College NHS Trust, where he is also the Clinical Director for Vascular Surgery, and his private practice is with Cleveland Clinic Hospital London. Upon graduating with his undergraduate medical degree in 1990 from the University of Manchester, Professor Gibbs undertook his training at esteemed London hospitals St Barts, Charing Cross, and St Mary’s. He also completed his MD at the University of London in 2003 and a fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons in the same year. Professor Gibbs is widely experienced in the full range of vascular diseases, and holds particular clinical and research interest in aortic diseases. His expertise in aortic aneurysms and dissections is recognised by his peers, on which he has published research and lectured internationally. Professor Gibbs set up and runs the only multidisciplinary Type-B aortic dissection clinic in the UK, and regularly collaborates with colleagues in other schools of medicine, such as interventional radiology and cardiac surgery for patients with complex aortic aneurysms.
