About Mr Nik Patel

Mr Nik Patel is a highly skilled neurosurgeon based at the Spire Hospital in Bristol. He specialises in the surgical treatment of trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm, spinal spondylitis and degenerative diseases, facial and cranial pain, cranial nerve hyperactive disorders and is also an expert in performing minimally invasive treatments for spinal diseases and chronic pain. Mr Patel initially studied and trained in medicine at Charing Cross & Westminster Medical School and in neurosciences at University College London from which he graduated with a first-class honours degree. In 1994, Mr Patel then graduated in medicine with a distinction in pathology from the University of London. He completed his basic surgical training at Oxford University and his neurosurgical training at Frenchay Hospital at the University of Bristol where he was then appointed as a consultant neurosurgeon in 2005. He has been recognised for functional neurosurgical excellence with an MRC fellowship and has also been featured in various publications and medical articles in The Guardian, ScienceDaily and the BBC where he covers treatment of conditions such as facial pain, spinal pain, hemifacial spasm, depression and Parkinson’s disease. Mr Patel has also received a Hunterian Professorship in Neurosurgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in recognition of his research in the growth factor therapy for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. He has also won numerous awards from both the American and the European Associations of Neurological Surgeons.
