About Dr Mariana Colmenares

Dr Mariana Colmenares is Specialty Doctor in Breastfeeding Medicine at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Trust and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). She is recognised for her exceptional professional and compassionate care, particularly in breastfeeding support and tongue-tie management. Over the past 15 years of practice in breastfeeding medicine, she has successfully performed more than 4,000 tongue-tie releases. Dr Colmenares obtained her medical degree from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and completed her paediatric specialisation at the Instituto Nacional de Pediatría, Mexico’s leading referral centre for child healthcare. She also completed an internship at the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán, a prestigious institution for clinical training and research. With a strong passion for developmental paediatrics and infant feeding, Dr Colmenares has extensive experience in counselling, education, and training of healthcare professionals, as well as in clinical research. She has specialised in neurodevelopmental paediatrics and breastfeeding medicine for over ten years and has undertaken additional training in autism and autism assessment. A committed leader, Dr Colmenares is actively involved in numerous national and international initiatives. She collaborates internationally with the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine (ABM), where she has served as Secretary since 2022. She also works with the National Public Health Institute in Mexico and UNICEF.
