Mr Ashraf Elmetwally is a distinguished consultant general and upper gastrointestinal surgeon currently serving within the North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust in the United Kingdom. He began his medical journey in Egypt, earning his medical degree in 1998, and went on to pursue postgraduate surgical training from 2001 onwards. His passion for complex gastrointestinal surgery led him to London, where he completed advanced fellowship training in Laparoscopic Surgery between 2009 and 2011, refining his expertise in minimally invasive and laparoscopic techniques. After being appointed a consultant surgeon in 2014, Mr Elmetwally has built a comprehensive practice covering a wide spectrum of gastrointestinal and general surgical conditions. He holds both an MD in General Surgery and the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS), reflecting his strong academic and professional credentials. His clinical interests include the surgical management of gallbladder disease, hernias, benign oesophageal and gastric disorders, , and , with a focus on improving outcomes through evidence-based approaches and patient-centred care. Beyond his clinical duties, Mr Elmetwally is an active contributor to medical education and research. He has presented at international surgical conferences and published work exploring diagnostic and therapeutic challenges in general surgery—such as the predictive role of serum bilirubin in acute appendicitis.
