About Dr Amit Chattree
Dr Amit Chatree is an exceptionally skilled and renowned consultant gastroenterologist, currently practising in Newcastle upon Tyne. He holds expertise in a wide range of gastroenterological issues, with a particular focus on inflammatory bowel disease, bowel cancer, general liver disease, coeliac disease, dyspepsia, gastrointestinal cancer (upper and lower GI cancers), small bowel conditions, diarrhoea, rectal bleeding, gastrointestinal polyps, bowel cancer screening and complex abdominal pain. Dr Amit Chattree qualified from Bart’s and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry and undertook specialist gastroenterology training on the North East Thames Gastroenterology Training Programme. He worked at world-leading centres gaining valuable expertise in treating the most complex gastrointestinal conditions. He undertook an advanced endoscopy fellowship at the University Hospital of North Tees and completed an MD Thesis at Durham University with numerous publications. Dr Chattree is the lead author of the British Society of Gastroenterology Guidelines for the management of large colorectal polyps and also developed the world’s first framework for the management of large polyps. He was awarded a British Society of Gastroenterology prize for his work in 2015. Dr Chattree specialises in advanced therapeutic endoscopy with high-quality outcomes. He is an accredited endoscopist for the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme and is a nationally recognised expert in small bowel endoscopy. He leads the small bowel department at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, the main tertiary referral centre for double-balloon enteroscopy and capsule endoscopy for the North East and Cumbria. He is also the Course Director for the renowned Lumley Castle European Capsule Endoscopy Course and a faculty member of the Sheffield Capsule Endoscopy Course. He is a nationally and internationally renowned gastroenterologist. He is an invited speaker at national and international conferences and remains active in teaching and research internationally. He is a national assessor for small bowel endoscopy and is the Royal College of Physicians’s national lead for the small bowel capsule endoscopy certification pathway. He is also a faculty member of the prestigious international teaching academy IRCAD. Dr Chattree sees a wide variety of gastroenterology and hepatology cases and is often asked to provide a second opinion for complex cases.
