About Dr Subramaniam Ramakrishnan

Dr Subramaniam Ramakrishnan is a distinguished consultant gastroenterologist based in Chester. His areas of expertise include stomach cancer, bowel cancer, liver cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and pancreatic disease. He is also highly proficient in gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), having performed more than 9,000 procedures. With over 35 years’ experience, he practises for Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since 2007, where he is also the endoscopy lead. Furthermore, he serves as the joint lead for Alcohol-Related Liver Disease within the North West Advancing Quality Programme. Dr Ramakrishnan obtained his MBBS in 1989, followed by his MD in 1994 and esteemed membership to the Royal College of Physicians in 1996. His specialist gastroenterology training included posts at Charing Cross Hospital, Wales and the North East of England, and then Freeman Hospital in Newcastle, where he acquired training in complex gastrointestinal and hepatopancreatobiliary diseases. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr Ramakrishnan is closely involved in teaching, training, and research. He regularly teaches trainees, nurses, and medical colleagues at various levels, sharing new developments and procedural techniques in gastroenterology, and is also a member of the Regional HPC Clinical Network Group. Notably, Dr Ramakrishnan introduced the capsule endoscopy service at Spire Cheshire Hospital in 2015.
