About Mr Shahid Farid

Mr Shahid Farid is a highly accomplished consultant general, hepatobiliary and liver transplant surgeon who possesses expertise in gallbladder surgery for gallstone disease, liver surgery, abdominal hernias and the investigation/treatment of abdominal pain. He currently is a Consultant Surgeon at internationally renowned St James’s University Hospitals, Leeds. He also has a private practice at the Leeds Spires Hospitals, providing expert care to patients and acts as Expert Witness in medical – legal matters. Mr Farid, is director of Clarity Health Consultancy providing strategic direction to industry in developing med-tech platfoms in the NHS. He is passionate about medical education and is an examiner at the University of Leeds Medical School, and faculty member of the National Organ Retrieval Service Masterclass Training group. His subspecialties include, biliary disease (gallstones), liver surgery for cancer, management of complex abdominal hernias including all groin hernias and provides surgery for scar revision. Notably, Mr Farid performs a high volume of gallbladder surgery every year and provides a regional service for Yorkshire hospitals for more complex gallbladder problems. Furthermore, he regularly performs liver resection (open and laparoscopic liver surgery) and liver transplantation and has impressively published over 60 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and textbooks. He is passionate in promoting organ donation and often involved in radio and TV.
