About Mr Shafiq Chughtai
Mr Shafiq Chughtai is an experienced consultant upper GI surgeon with a solid background in general surgery and hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) procedures. Mr Chughtai graduated from the Military Medical School in Pakistan in 2003 and initially developed his surgical expertise while working in conflict zones and responding to national disasters. His dedication to advancing his skills in liver surgery led him to the United Kingdom. He trained at some of the UK’s premier institutions, including Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and St. James’s University Hospital in Leeds, where he worked closely with leading HPB surgeons and liver transplant experts. He also holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Transplantation, which he achieved from the University of Liverpool. Mr Chughtai has made meaningful clinical and academic contributions to his field. He has been actively involved in remote surgical support initiatives, helping improve HPB and transplant care in low-resource settings. His research is widely published in peer-reviewed medical journals, and he is a committed educator, mentoring junior doctors in surgical practice. An advocate for point-of-care ultrasound, he is currently pursuing further postgraduate education in this specialty. Mr Chughtai’s dedication, broad clinical experience, and commitment to innovation make him a valuable leader in HPB surgery. He also has a deep interest in point of care ultrasound - bedside scanning in clinic and ward which enhances assessment and is an adjunct to clinical examination.
