About Dr Selwyn Dexter

Dr Selwyn Dexter has been a general medical practitioner (GP) for over 35 years. He ran a busy practice near central London for both the National Health Service and private patients. He manages all clinical general practice-related problems. He is used to dealing with complicated medical cases and difficult diagnoses. He has a network of specialist consultants around London when patients need onward referral. Dr Dexter is also a medical acupuncturist and honorary consultant physician. He has practiced for over 30 years and holds a diploma from the British Medical Acupuncture Society. He is an honorary consultant physician at the prestigious National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Queen Square, London. He has a specialist interest in migraines and other headaches. He also treats musculoskeletal and neuralgic pain and some other neurological conditions. Acupuncture has broad medical usage beyond the neurological field. Dr Dexter has a further interest in the use of acupuncture to aid fertility and also other gynaecological problems. He has a special interest in the use of acupuncture to improve the symptoms of keratoconus, an inflammatory corneal eye condition, and has improved tear flow in some of these patients enabling them to wear contact lenses for longer periods. The results of this work were presented at a medical conference at the Royal College of Physicians in London in 2007. Outside of acupuncture, Dr Dexter has published original work in the British Medical Journal, which has helped in the development of new treatments for migraine. Most recently he has been involved in assessing and treating long Covid patients in a clinic set up at Queen Square. He also practices at the Wellington Hospital and the Harley Street Clinic.
