About Mr Sanjaya Wijeyekoon

Mr Sanjaya Wijeyekoon is a leading consultant colorectal surgeon based in Bournemouth. With a career in medicine spanning over 25 years, Mr Wijeyekoon is highly experienced in the treatment and management of a wide range of colorectal conditions, including AIN3, anal fistula, pilonidal disease, haemorrhoids, endometriosis, and laparoscopic procedures. He is an expert in proctology with laser surgery. Mr Wijeyekoon is an NHS-designated high-resolution anoscopist (HRA). Mr Wijeyekoon trained at Cambridge University and received his MBBS from the University of London in 1996, before going on to receive a fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1999. He then was awarded an MSc from The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 2002, and an FRCS in General Surgery from the Intercollegiate Specialty Board for General Surgery in 2008. Mr Wijeyekoon currently practises at the Nuffield Health Bournemouth Hospital and the Bournemouth Private Clinic. He is also a consultant colorectal surgeon at University Hospital’s Dorset NHS Foundation Trust and is based mainly at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. He has previously held positions at the Academic Surgical Unit of the Royal London Hospital and the Homerton University Hospital, London. Mr Wijeyekoon also has an extensive background in medical research. He has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, on topics ranging from the treatment of skin and colorectal conditions to high-resolution anoscopy with laser ablation and the management of AIN3.
