About Mr James Hahnel
Mr James Hahnel is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital. He specialises in the hips and knees, having expertise in procedures such as hip replacement, knee replacement, hip replacement revision, knee replacement revision, and arthroscopy. Mr Hahnel qualified from Newcastle University in 2000, and underwent higher surgical training in the Yorkshire Deanery. He has completed a fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons in orthopaedic and trauma at the Chapel Allerton Orthopaedic Centre. He was appointed consultant at the Bradford Royal Infirmary in 2011, which is one of the largest joint replacement units in Yorkshire. In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Hahnel is an Active Trauma Life Support (ATLS) instructor, and has several publications regarding hip fractures. All of Mr Hahnel’s joint replacements are peer-reviewed as part of the Yorkshire Hip and Knee Group. He is proud of low complication and revision rates and high patient satisfaction due to care taken with implantation and soft tissue structure by utilising pre-operative templating and intra-operative techniques to improve accuracy. James Hahnel prides himself on the personal approach he has with his patients and the attention to detail he places on his surgery. Therefore, he has maintained an excellent revision rate for both hip (top 5% surgeon in the country) and knee replacement surgery (top 0.1% surgeon in the country), as evidenced in the national comparative revision funnel plots comparing his own practice to every other surgeon in the country performing this type of surgery.
