About Mr Richard Cove

Mr Richard Cove is a highly regarded consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in knee, foot, and ankle surgery. He is North Devons most senior and experienced knee, foot and ankle surgeon. His expertise includes arthroscopic procedures (key hole surgery), knee replacement surgeries and treatments for foot and ankle pain and deformities. He has completed thousands of successful knee, foot and ankle surgeries. He introduced a number of new procedures to North Devon including day case foot and ankle surgery and was the first to use local anaesthetic infiltration techniques for knee replacement surgery. This has contributed to reducing post-operative pain, faster rehabilitation and patient satisfaction. Mr Cove attained his medical degree from Bristol University in 1998. He gained his MRCS in surgery at the Newcastle Surgical rotation. He has specialist Orthopaedic training which he completed in the South West, qualifying FRCS Orth in 2011. During this training he was also awarded an MSc (Masters of Science degree) for his research into treatment of early arthritis of the knee which is still one of his specialist interests. He sees patients privately at clinic rooms at PHP and within North Devon District Hospital where he runs his NHS consultancy. He was clinical lead of North Devon District Hospital between 2017-2022, where he contributed to the department’s achievements in productivity, safety, and patient outcomes. Dedicated to the advancement of medical education, Mr Cove is actively involved in training junior doctors and orthopaedic surgical trainees.
