About Mr Eriberto Farinella

Mr Eriberto Farinella is an extensively trained and skilled consultant general surgeon who specialises in emergency, general, laparoscopic and coloproctology surgery. He practices at Lister Hospital - East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust. Mr Farinella performs laparoscopic and open gastro-intestinal surgery, laparoscopic division of adhesions for recurrent/chronic abdominal pain including biopsies, laparoscopic and open cholecystectomy (gallstone surgery), laparoscopic/robotic and open hernia surgery including inguinal, umbilical, epigastric and incisional hernias, abdominal wall reconstruction, coloproctology including treatment of haemorrhoids, anal fissure, anal fistula, perianal abscess and pilonidal sinus. Mr Farinella has also successfully introduced the laser ablation of haemorrhoids, anal fistula and pilonidal sinus in the Trust as mini-invasive treatment for these conditions. Additionally, he assists patients with cholecystectomy (gallstone surgery), abdominalwallreconstruction, laparoscopicandopengastrointestinalsurgery and diagnosticlaparoscopy, including retroperitonealbiopsies. Mr Farinella completed medical school at the University of Palermo in Italy. He then undertook surgical training at the University of Perugia and Milan, which is where he achieved his MD qualification. Mr Farinella relocated to the UK and spent his last two years of surgical training at the renowned clinics of St Mark's Hospital, London, a specialist bowel hospital, and at Royal Marsden Hospital, a specialist cancer hospital, to gain exposure to complex GI (gastrointestinal) and colorectal cases. He then underwent extensive specialist training in laparoscopic and GI surgery on the highly regarded North-West Thames rotation and obtained a subspecialist fellowship in colorectal surgery. He has published many research papers, conducted numerous research projects and clinical audits, and presented his work at several national and international conferences. Mr Farinella is the emergency surgery lead at the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust and is responsible for several quality improvement projects to elevate emergency surgical care standards.
