Mr Aruna Dharmasena is a consultant ophthalmic, oculoplastic, lacrimal, and orbital surgeon in Manchester, providing specialist care for both adults and children. His expertise spans oculoplastic, lacrimal, and orbital surgery, with a broad practice that includes the management of benign and malignant eyelid and orbital tumours, thyroid eye disease, tear duct disorders, dry eye syndromes, eyelid malposition such as ptosis, ectropion, and entropion, trauma as well as eyelid infections and orbital infections. In addition to his clinical work, he offers a wide range of surgical and non-surgical aesthetic procedures, including upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty, brow lifts, and advanced facial rejuvenation techniques. Mr Dharmasena’s private practice is based at the Private Patient Centre at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital and the Regency Eye Hospital, while his NHS commitments are with Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. He graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from the University of Colombo in 2000. He completed his basic specialist training in ophthalmology at the East Midlands Deanery. His early postgraduate experience included posts as a senior house officer at Moorfields Eye Centre, Croydon University Hospital NHS Trust, and St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He then pursued higher specialist training through the North-Western Deanery, followed by prestigious fellowships in orbital, lacrimal, and oculoplastic surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. A fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth) and a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCSEd), Mr Dharmasena provides comprehensive management of eyelid, orbital, and lacrimal disorders. His practice encompasses both functional and aesthetic surgery, including blepharoplasty, brow lift, micro and nano fat transfer, and treatments for facial palsy, blepharospasm, and synkinesis. Beyond his clinical commitments, he is actively involved in academic and research initiatives aimed at advancing treatment strategies and rehabilitation for patients with complex ocular and facial conditions.
