HIV and AIDS
HIV, or human immunodeficiency virus, is a virus that compromises your immune system, making you more vulnerable to severe illnesses. While there is no cure at present, many individuals living with HIV can manage the condition effectively and enjoy a long and healthy life with appropriate treatment. AIDS, which stands for acquired immune deficiency syndrome, refers to a group of serious health issues that arise from HIV. Nowadays, AIDS is often referred to as late-stage or advanced HIV. In the UK, the majority of individuals receiving treatment for HIV do not progress to developing AIDS. The virus can be transmitted through unprotected vaginal, anal, or oral sex, as well as by sharing needles with someone who is HIV positive.
