Dystonia
Dystonia refers to involuntary and often painful muscle contractions or spasms. While it is typically a long-term condition, various treatments can assist in alleviating the symptoms. Dystonia can manifest in the entire body or be localized to a specific area. It can begin at any age, and symptoms may be persistent or intermittent. Factors such as stress or specific activities can trigger these symptoms. Though dystonia is relatively rare, it's advisable to have any symptoms evaluated by a healthcare professional.
Common symptoms:
Tiredness
Uncontrolled muscle cramps and spasms
Parts of your body twisting into unusual positions – such as your neck being twisted to the side or your feet turning inwards
Shaking (tremors)
Uncontrolled blinking
Stress
Drinking alcohol or caffeine
Talking
Eating or chewing
Activities like writing, typing or playing an instrument
