Bird flu
Bird flu, also known as avian influenza, primarily affects birds. The virus can be transmitted to humans through direct contact. While it can be deadly, cases in the UK are quite uncommon. You may contract bird flu by being in close proximity to infected birds or by coming into contact with the droppings of an infected bird or one that has died. Although bird flu is present worldwide, including in the UK, the majority of human infections have occurred in regions of Asia and North Africa.
