Bowen's disease
Bowen's disease is a very early and easily treatable type of skin cancer. It typically presents as a red, scaly patch on the skin that may be itchy or bleed. These patches can appear anywhere on the body but are most commonly found on sun-exposed areas like the face, neck, and hands.
The primary cause of Bowen's disease is prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun or tanning beds. Other factors that may contribute include a weakened immune system, exposure to certain chemicals, and pre-existing skin conditions.
Fortunately, Bowen's disease is highly treatable. Various treatment options are available, including topical chemotherapy, cryotherapy (freezing the lesion), laser therapy, and surgical excision. The choice of treatment often depends on the size and location of the lesion, as well as the patient's overall health. Regular monitoring and follow-up are important to ensure the condition does not recur.
