About Mr Sanjeeva Jeyaretna

Mr Sanjeeva Jeyaretna is a highly accomplished consultant neurosurgeon based in Oxford, practising at Nuffield Health The Manor Hospital. He specialises in skull base surgery and the treatment of complex brain and skull base tumours, with particular expertise in meningioma, vestibular schwannoma, skull base tumours and facial pain syndromes, including trigeminal neuralgia. His clinical practice focuses on advanced open, minimally invasive and endoscopic techniques, including complex 360-degree skull base surgery, and he also co-delivers the radiosurgery service at Oxford alongside his oncology colleagues. He is the Director of the Oxford University Hospitals Skull Base Surgery Programme and Co-Director of the Skull Base Surgery and Neurovascular Fellowship, having previously served as Training Programme Director for the Oxford Neurosurgery Programme. Mr Jeyaretna holds several national leadership roles, including elected council member of the British Skull Base Society and appointed member of the Specialty Advisory Committee for Neurosurgery, which oversees neurosurgical training in the UK. He is Course Director for the Oxford Skull Base Course and the national ST6 Bootcamp, and represents the Society of British Neurosurgeons at both the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies and the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies. Mr Jeyaretna has a strong academic and research background, having completed his doctoral and post-doctoral research at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. He continues to collaborate with the University of Oxford on translational research in brain tumour biology, with a particular focus on meningioma biology and the application of artificial intelligence to skull base surgery. His work includes the development of AI-driven diagnostic and follow-up tools aimed at improving patient safety and outcomes, alongside ongoing contributions to international research, teaching and scientific publication.
