About Dr Ruhina Ahmed

Dr Ruhina Ahmed is a consultant luminal gastroenterologist, practising at Spire Little Aston Hospital. She specialises in luminal gastrointestinal diseases such as swallowing disorders, inflammatory bowel diseases (ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease), endoscopy, and gastrointestinal cancer. Dr Ahmed qualified from the Rajshashi Medical College in 2005, and trained in gastroenterology and hepatology in the West Midlands. Upon completing her higher speciality training, she did an advanced endoscopy fellowship. In 2020, she was appointed consultant at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire, where she is the lead for the upper gastrointestinal 2-week wait cancer pathway service, playing a pivotal role in facilitating the diagnosis and treatment of patients with possible upper gastrointestinal cancers, and additionally is a core member of both the IBD and upper GI MDTs at the Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. Dr Ahmed is a JAG-accredited endoscopy trainer, and can perform both diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and flexible sigmoidoscopy. In 2021, Dr Ahmed was made a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. In addition to her clinical practice, she also enjoys teaching. She has taken the responsibility of leading educational programmes for higher gastroenterological training in the West Midland Deanery and supervising medical students, CNS nurses, pharmacists, and junior doctors. She also performs as a PACES examiner for the Royal College of Physicians' membership accreditation.
