About Dr Rama Vancheeswaran

Dr Rama Vancheeswaran is a distinguished and highly experienced consultant in respiratory medicine affiliated with HCA Healthcare, She also currently holds an NHS Integrated Consultant post at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. Her previous roles include an honorary consultant position at the Royal Brompton Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) Unit and Director of Research at West Hertfordshire, where her work focused on COVID-19, ILD, cancer, pulmonary embolism (PE), asthma and COPD. She has also served as ILD and COPD lead at the Royal Free Hospital (Barnet). An accomplished author, Dr Vancheeswaran has more than 100 publications and conference articles. Her awards include the HSJ Award for Lung Cancer (2015), the BMJ Award for Best Respiratory Team of the Year (2021) as lead, the BAME Clinical Champion of the Year (2021), along with numerous other local and national accolades in respiratory medicine. With over 25 years’ experience as a respiratory consultant, Dr Vancheeswaran provides expert care across a wide spectrum of respiratory conditions, including chronic cough, asthma, COPD, bronchiolitis, bronchiectasis, cancer, thromboembolic disease, sleep disorders, respiratory infections and interstitial lung disease. Her practice is centred on close collaboration with patients to deliver holistic, personalised care. Her medical education and specialist training were undertaken at leading London teaching hospitals, including the Royal Brompton, St Mary’s and Hammersmith Hospitals. She holds an MSc in Immunology from Brunel University and a PhD from the Royal Free/Brompton/Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology and University College London. Her doctoral research, conducted with Professor Carol M Black, focused on the immunopathogenesis of scleroderma and fibrosing alveolitis, and she has published extensively in this field. Dr Vancheeswaran has served on the British Thoracic Society Specialist Advisory Group for COPD and was appointed as a patient ambassador for the British Lung Foundation. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and is a frequent national speaker and lecturer in respiratory medicine. She has presented at the British Thoracic Society, Royal College of Physicians, Primary Care Cardiovascular Society, National Respiratory Leadership Forum, Pulse, and numerous local and national webinars. She was the respiratory module lead for Watford at Brunel Medical School and has trained large numbers of respiratory trainees and allied healthcare professionals throughout her career.
