About Mr Nimish Shah

Mr Nimish Shah is a consultant ophthalmologist practicing in Swindon. He specialises in cataract surgery — including intraocular and refractive lens exchange — diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion, medica retina disorders, and general ophthalmology. Mr Shah qualified from the Devi Ahilya Vishwavidlya University, India, in 1997. He completed his post-graduate training in ophthalmology in 2002 at the University of Rajasthan, India, before coming to the UK. He has been working in the NHS in UK since 2004. In 2006 he became a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London and in 2007 he obtained the membership of Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. In 2009, he was awarded a Fellowship by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons, Glasgow. In October 2025, Mr Shah performed the first Johnson & Johnson TECNIS Odyssey Multifocal Toric intraocular lens implantation at The Ridgeway Hospital, Swindon, becoming the first ophthalmic surgeon within Circle Health Group to implant this new state-of-the-art premium multifocal lens. The clinical outcomes of this revolutionary intraocular lens implant have been excellent, with the patient reporting to be 'over the moon', describing the improvement as being life-changing. Mr Shah is the Clinical Lead for Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Services for the Swindon, Bath, and Salisbury regions, and has participated in the development of medical retina services within the NHS. In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Shah is a researcher and medical educator. He has presented more than 30 papers and posters at various international and national conferences. He serves as a Faculty trainer at Microsurgical skills course and Phaco training course at Royal College of Ophthalmologist, London & is also on International examiner panel for the FRCS exam by Royal Colleges of Ophthalmology and Surgeons, Glasgow.
