About Mr Matthew Oakley
Mr Matthew Oakley is a highly regarded consultant orthopaedic surgeon based in Hereford, practising at Nuffield Health Hereford Hospital. He specialises in knee and hip surgery, with particular expertise in total knee replacement, total hip replacement, revision knee replacement, ACL reconstruction, knee arthroscopy, and custom-made joint replacements, including robotic-assisted procedures. Known for his meticulous surgical technique and patient-centred approach, Mr Oakley provides comprehensive orthopaedic care tailored to each individual’s needs. Mr Oakley studied Medicine at Glasgow University, graduating in 1991. He undertook his specialist orthopaedic training through the Northern Region Orthopaedic Training Programme before completing an arthroplasty fellowship at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham, and a trauma fellowship at the Rocky Mountain Regional Trauma Centre in Denver, Colorado. In 2003, he returned to Hereford to take up a consultant post, where he has remained dedicated to advancing orthopaedic care. Mr Oakley has performed more than 4,000 hip and knee replacements, all submitted to the National Joint Registry, where his results remain excellent. He has a strong interest in complex knee revision surgery, having successfully treated over 300 challenging cases. Mr Oakley also leads improvement initiatives locally, including the Enhanced Recovery Programme and GIRFT (Getting It Right First Time), both aimed at improving surgical outcomes and patient experience following joint replacement procedures.
