About Mr Kostas Tsitskaris
Mr Kostas Tsitskaris is a revered consultant orthopaedic surgeon with a specialist focus on hip and knee conditions based at Nuffield Health The Holly Private Hospital. His NHS practice is based at Barts Health NHS Trust, where he undertakes clinical work at the Gateway Surgical Centre and Whipps Cross University Hospital. His clinical interests include hip and knee replacement surgery, arthroscopic knee procedures (including sports injuries, meniscal repair, ACL reconstruction and cartilage preservation), and orthopaedic trauma. Mr Tsitskaris completed his specialist orthopaedic training on the highly competitive UCH/Middlesex training programme. During this time, he trained in internationally renowned units such as the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH), Great Ormond Street Hospital and University College London Hospital. He subsequently undertook two prestigious specialist fellowships, first under Professor Michael Dunbar in Canada and later at the Barts Health Orthopaedic Centre and the Royal London Hospital. His fellowship experience was further enhanced through visits to centres of excellence in hip and knee surgery, including Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Tsitskaris has a strong academic profile. In 2014, he completed an MSc in Trauma and Orthopaedics at University College London, with a research thesis focusing on corrosion and wear in total hip replacements. His ongoing research includes serving as the local principal investigator for several national studies. He has authored more than thirty peer-reviewed manuscripts, abstracts and book chapters, and has presented his work at leading international and national orthopaedic conferences, including the American Academy, the Orthopaedic Research Society and the British Orthopaedic Association. He is also a reviewer for several scientific journals, including The Bone & Joint Journal. In addition, Mr Tsitskaris holds a significant leadership role within Barts Health, serving as the orthopaedic lead for the hip and fragility fracture service. With the implementation of the orthopaedic integrated care system, this role has wide-ranging implications for the treatment of these injuries. Mr Tsitskaris is passionate about delivering the best possible outcomes for his patients. He believes that effective communication and a thorough understanding of a patient’s individual circumstances, are elementary to successful long-term outcomes. Kostas prides himself on getting to the bottom of his patients’ conditions, engaging them fully in the decision-making process and treating them the way he would like to be treated himself.
