About Mr Jonathan Lippiatt

Mr Jonathan Lippiatt is a consultant specialising in gynaecology and gynaecological oncology. After completing the general Obstetrics & Gynaecology training program, he pursued an additional two years focusing specifically on gynaecological cancer. Mr Lippiatt completed his training at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. He then advanced to roles as a Senior Registrar and Clinical Lecturer at the university before focusing on Gynaecological Oncology. In his first year as a consultant, he established a specialised advanced laparoscopy service to treat patients with endometrial and cervical cancers. In 2016, Mr Lippiatt became the first surgeon in Dorset to perform a hysterectomy for cancer using the cutting-edge da Vinci robotic system. This technology enables highly precise laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. It was the first time this fully integrated robotic surgery system was used for such a procedure in the UK. Thanks to this approach, patients experience faster recovery times and less pain compared to conventional gynaecological surgery. Dr Lippiatt is actively engaged in research and has shared his findings at numerous international conferences. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed gynaecology journals, particularly on robotic surgery for gynaecological cancers. Currently, he serves as Principal Investigator for the "Mirrors" surgical trial, which examines the use of robotic-assisted surgery in treating ovarian cancer. He is deeply committed to education, frequently mentoring students from local schools as well as medical students from Southampton and St George’s Medical School in Grenada. Additionally, Dr Lippiatt’s centre is a reference hub for robotic surgery, welcoming consultants from across the UK and Europe. He regularly supports and trains new and experienced surgeons in advanced robotic surgical techniques throughout the region.
