About Mr Jignesh Patel
Mr Jignesh Patel is a distinguished consultant ophthalmologist based in Colchester. His areas of expertise include diabetic retinopathy, cataract surgery, age-related macular degeneration, general ophthalmology, medical retina, surgical retina, retinal vein occlusion, and epiretinal membranes. Mr Patel consults privately at Ramsay Oaks Hospital. With over 30 years’ experience, Mr Patel also holds an NHS position at Colchester Hospital since 2009, where he leads the retinal research unit. Additionally, Mr Patel is the clinical director for specialist surgery at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust and the East Anglia Representative for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. Mr Patel originally qualified from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1993, obtaining an MBBS and an intercalated BSc (Hons). He undertook his higher ophthalmology training in 2002, and received accreditation from the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board in 2009. With specialist expertise in the retina, Mr Patel also completed a two-year postgraduate research thesis in diabetic retinopathy at the Institute of Ophthalmology, which culminated in a Doctorate of Medicine. Furthermore, Mr Patel went on to accomplish three prestigious fellowships. These included a surgical and medical retina fellowship at the Royal Perth Hospital, and two medical retina and vitreoretinal surgery fellowships at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital. In addition to his clinical work, Mr Patel regularly lectures, presents, and publishes on diabetic-related eye diseases, and his work has contributed to over 15 publications in leading medical journals, including RETINA. He holds esteemed fellowship to the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and is also a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists and the American Academy of Ophthalmologists.
