About Miss Jennifer Henderson Darrien

Miss Jennifer Henderson Darrien is a renowned consultant bariatric surgeon who graduated in 2003 from the University of Glasgow, where she received extensive postgraduate surgical training in general and laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, as well as benign biliary and upper gastrointestinal (UGI) surgery, at some of Scotland's leading hospitals, including those in Edinburgh and Glasgow. After completing her surgical training, Jennifer undertook a Royal College of Surgeons of England-approved Bariatric Surgery Fellowship at University College London Hospital and NHS Northumbria. Since 2017, she has been working as a consultant bariatric surgeon with Phoenix Health, receiving direct mentorship from Professor David Kerrigan, former president of the British Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS), and Mr Shafiq Javed. Notably, Miss Henderson Darrien has performed a wide range of primary and revisional bariatric surgeries, both within the NHS and privately, in the North-West of England. Additionally, she has led clinical services at Phoenix Irish Health and contributed to Phoenix Health's National Intragastric Balloon Service. She is passionate about training and mentoring the next generation of surgeons at Phoenix Health. She has held substantive NHS Consultant Surgeon positions in General Surgery, UGI, and Bariatrics in both Scotland and England, including at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, where she has further developed her expertise in general, benign UGI, and biliary surgery. She also supports the Remote & Rural Surgery Services in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.
