About Mr Georgios Theophilou

Mr Georgios Theophilou is a dedicated and patient-focused consultant gynaecologist and gynaecological oncology surgeon based in Leeds. He practises privately at Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital, Spire Leeds Hospital and Spire Healthcare Harrogate Clinic. He treats both benign gynaecological conditions and gynaecological cancers, with particular expertise in colposcopy, hysteroscopy, ovarian cysts, fibroids and endometriosis, as well as menopause-related concerns. He offers personalised care using minimally invasive and open surgical techniques, including laparoscopic and robotic surgery. Mr Theophilou qualified from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2005 and completed his general obstetrics and gynaecology training in Lancashire. He was awarded a Medical Doctorate from Lancaster University, focusing on biospectroscopy for cancer screening and diagnosis, before sub-specialising in gynaecological oncology in Leeds. In 2017, he was appointed as a consultant at St James’s University Hospital, where he went on to establish the gynaecological oncology robotic surgery service. He is a registered colposcopist with the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP) and holds membership with leading national and European professional societies. In addition to his clinical work, Mr Theophilou is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds, where he contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, including the development of advanced surgical training courses. He also holds significant leadership roles, serving as Clinical Director for the Gynaecology Optimal Pathway Group within the West Yorkshire & Harrogate Cancer Alliance and as Lead Clinician for the Central Gynaecological Oncology multidisciplinary team. His research interests include the application of artificial intelligence in gynaecological cancer care and improving clinician–patient communication to enhance treatment outcomes.
