About Dr Freddie Bartlett
Dr Freddie Bartlett is a leading Consultant Clinical Oncologist based in Portsmouth. His areas of expertise include breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, and oesophageal cancer using techniques including radiotherapy, chemotherapy and stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy (SABR). As a specialist, he is particularly noted for his knowledge of heart-sparing breast radiotherapy techniques, including deep-inspiratory breath hold (DIBH). He has published and spoken extensively on this subject and his work has changed UK breast radiotherapy practice. Dr Bartlett also has a particular interest in diet and its role in cancer prevention and treatment. With over 20 years’ experience, Dr Bartlett consults privately at GenesisCare Portsmouth and at Spire Hospital Portsmouth. In addition, he serves as Head of Radiotherapy at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust and works as a visiting Consultant at St Richard’s Hospital Chichester. Dr Bartlett originally qualified from Imperial College London, obtaining an MBBS and an BSc in Neuroscience and Biomedical Sciences. He undertook training in London and the South of England, before completing an MD research degree in heart-sparing breast radiotherapy techniques at the prestigious Royal Marsden Hospital and Institute of Cancer Research. Dr Bartlett holds membership of the Royal College of Physicians and fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists. He is also an active clinical researcher, leading the series of UK HeartSpare Studies at the Royal Marsden Hospital. Dr Bartlett was a principal investigator for the Neo-AEGIS and SCOPE 2 clinical trials, was local radiotherapy lead for the ESPAC-5F trial and is currently a co-investigator in the ATNEC trial and principal investigator for the FAST Forward Boost trial, among others.
