About Mr Dorin Dumitru
Mr Dorin Dumitru is an oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgeon in Hull. He specialises in FTM top surgery, breast augmentation and breast reduction, alongside perforator flaps, gynaecomastia, breast conservation surgery, therapeutic mammoplasty and lipomodelling. He privately practises at Spire Hull and East Riding Hospital, while his NHS trust is Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. His clinical practice includes complex therapeutic mammoplasty, symmetrisation surgery, breast reduction and immediate sub-pectoral and pre-pectoral implant-based breast reconstruction using acellular dermal matrices. He has a particular interest in oncoplastic breast conservation surgery and local flap techniques, including mini latissimus dorsi, thoracodorsal artery perforator and lateral intercostal artery perforator flaps. His work also includes risk-reducing surgery, lipomodelling and revision procedures. In addition to breast cancer treatment, Mr Dumitru has a dedicated interest in breast aesthetics, including breast reduction, mastopexy, augmentation, gynaecomastia surgery and female-to-male chest surgery. He has performed more than 2,000 breast procedures, including skin-sparing and simple mastectomy, wide local excision, sentinel lymph node biopsy, duct surgery, fat grafting and both prosthesis-based and autologous reconstruction. Mr Dumitru qualified in medicine in 2009 from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and was awarded a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in 2015. He subsequently undertook three oncoplastic fellowships at leading centres, including Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, The Royal County Hospital in Hampshire, Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge and the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. He completed the prestigious Querci della Rovere Fellowship, which included observerships at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York and the National Cancer Institute in Milan. He also holds a Master of Surgery degree from the University of East Anglia and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and the European Board of Breast Surgery. He serves as Innovation Lead and Governance Lead for the Breast Unit at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. His research interests focus on the development of new technologies in breast surgery, including fluorescence navigation, magnetic tracers for sentinel lymph node biopsy and advances in reconstructive devices such as acellular dermal matrices and titanium mesh. He has authored several peer-reviewed publications, including a book chapter on oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery, with work published in journals such as Future Oncology, The Lancet Oncology and Annals of Surgery. Alongside his clinical and research work, Mr Dumitru is a senior lecturer at Hull York Medical School and a clinical tutor for third-year medical students. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the European Board of Breast Surgery, and a member of the European Society of Surgical Oncology, the Association of Breast Surgeons and the UK Group for Reconstructive and Therapeutic Advancements.
